Book Review: "Russian Colonial Society in Tashkent: 1865-1923" – Jeff Sahadeo
Book #53 of 2019!
As the second book about Uzbekistan that I have read in 2019, I was quite disappointed with this book.
There doesn’t seem to be a point to this book other than to argue that colonialism and colonial society is multifaceted and complex. Other than reading about how Tashkent became one of the largest and most important cities in Russian Turkestan, the 1892 Cholera Riots, and how the Tashkent Soviet crushed Kokand, I didn’t find this book very informative or useful.
